At least 15 individuals tragically lost their lives in a catastrophic accident in Manitoba, Canada, on Thursday. The incident involved a bus carrying elderly passengers that collided with a truck at an intersection near Carberry, roughly 170 kilometers west of Winnipeg.
The bus was en route to a casino in Carberry when the crash occurred. Rob Hill, Deputy Police Officer and commander of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in Manitoba, confirmed the extent of the tragedy, stating, “At least 15 individuals were pronounced dead as a result of the collision.”
In addition to the fatalities, ten others sustained injuries and are currently receiving medical treatment in the hospital. The drivers of both vehicles survived the incident, but authorities have not yet determined or disclosed information regarding potential fault.
Images from the scene revealed a somber aftermath, with damaged wheelchair seats and walking frames scattered near tarpaulins covering the victims, heightening the sorrow of the situation.
In light of the tragedy, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau offered his condolences, expressing that his thoughts are with the injured and the families of those who lost their loved ones. Manitoba Premier Heather Stefanson also conveyed her heartfelt sympathy for all those impacted by this horrific event.
